Fix the broken HTTPS redirect chain on Cloudflare
Why it matters
Requests to the HTTPS site loop, bounce through too many redirects or get no answer, so visitors see an error instead of the site. This usually comes from two layers redirecting against each other, or from a server that accepts TLS but has no site set up for this name.
The fix
- Open SSL/TLS, Overview. Flexible mode sends plain http to your server; if the server then redirects to https, the request loops. Install a certificate on the origin and switch to Full (strict), or remove the origin's http to https redirect.
- With Full or Full (strict), a loop means the origin redirects https back to http. Remove that redirect at the origin.
- Check Rules, Overview for Redirect Rules or Page Rules that point at each other (www to apex and apex to www, for example) and keep one.
