Add a robots.txt file on Shopify
Why it matters
Without a robots.txt, crawlers assume they may fetch everything, which is a legitimate choice. A small file still lets you name your sitemap and gives you a place to set rules later.
The fix
Not possible on Shopify. Shopify publishes a robots.txt for every store automatically, so a missing one points to a domain or access problem rather than a file you add. Check Online Store, Preferences for password protection and Settings, Domains for the connection status, then contact Shopify Support if /robots.txt still returns 404.
