Add a meta description to the homepage
Why it matters
The meta description is often the text shown under your link in search results, and without it search engines pick a random piece of the page. A clear description helps people decide to click.
The fix
- Add a meta tag named description to the head of the homepage. Write one or two sentences that summarise the page for a visitor, and make it unique on each page.
- Google has no fixed length but cuts long text to fit the screen, so put the key point first. Do not stuff it with keywords.
