Fix the canonical link on the homepage
Why it matters
The canonical address on the homepage is not valid, for example relative, malformed or pointing at a page that does not work. Search engines then ignore it and guess which version to index.
The fix
- Replace the value with a full absolute address that starts with https://, with no fragment, and that opens the live homepage with a 200 status (not a redirect or an error page).
- Keep one canonical per page and put it inside the head. A relative address such as / or an address with a typo is the usual mistake.
html
<link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/"> The examples use example.com. Replace it with your own domain.
